Bunn's Kids is a volunteer organization established in the memory of Mr. Bernard "Bunn" Deschamps.
Bunn grew up in Penetanguishene and often couldn't afford to play sports as a child, so he wanted others to have the chance. During his life he was an active sport enthusiast who played hockey and baseball and just about every sport in season.
In over 50 years of athletic participation, Bunn gave a lot of his time to coaching and teaching as well. He was coach and manager of the wonderfully successful Midland Indians baseball team in the 1960's. For years he conducted clinics and practices to help youngsters learn the game of baseball. It was his first love.
Bunn believed that children who interact with others through participation in activities and sports have a great opportunity to grow and develop both as individuals and members of our society. He cared about people and very seldom spoke of himself. He taught respect to his children and the many children he worked with. Bunn and his wife had three children - son Buzz and two daughters, Andrea and Brenda.
Bunn Deschamps' legacy of giving to the local sports scene lives on in the Bunn's Kids organization, which was founded in October of 1992 to help carry on his work.
So far our non-profit organization has assisted over 700 boys and girls in Huronia get involved in sports and other community and character building activities and has funded over 300,000 back into the local communities to help make this possible.
Bunn Deschamps was a man who's love for sports led him through life. To many, he became a mentor and a great friend.
